Trump's Gas Price Promises Unravel Amid Expert Contradictions
President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed that gas prices are already down or will soon go down, which could be crucial to Republican successes in the upcoming midterm elections.
However, his statements are contradicted by experts and fellow Republicans. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-N.D.) said he is open to exploring an export ban for diesel fuel if it would take pressure off of prices.
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum told reporters that a ban on U.S. fuel or oil exports would likely not lower prices, saying 'we would consider an export ban if we thought that actually might lower prices, but that's not the case.'
Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst at Gulf Oil, predicted that diesel prices will remain above $6 and gasoline above $4.
Economist Dr. Robert J. Shapiro explained how Trump's war against Iran virtually guarantees that gas prices will remain high for the foreseeable future, citing a new risk premium and reduced supply due to degraded oil infrastructure.
