Trump's Iran Meeting Fails to Boost Markets Amid Oil Price Stabilization
Global stock markets were mixed on Wednesday after US President Donald Trump announced that he and Iranian officials had a 'very good' meeting at the UN General Assembly. The statement came after Trump threatened to 'annihilate' Iran if a deal couldn't be made.
Oil prices stabilized, but remained below $100 a barrel, following the meeting. Brent crude, the international standard, edged up less than 0.1% to $99.30 per barrel.
In early European trading, Britain's FTSE 100 rose 0.2%, while France's CAC 40 and Germany's DAX declined 0.4%. South Korea's Kospi rose 0.9%, but Hong Kong's Hang Seng lost 1%.
