Trump's Pause Sends Crude Oil Prices Reeling on Hyperliquid
Crude oil prices retreated on Hyperliquid as US President Donald Trump paused his strikes against Iran. The West Texas Intermediate (WTI) dropped to $86.82 from last week's high of $93, while Brent, the global benchmark, fell to $98.
The pause in strikes removes the immediate supply-shock premium from WTI, allowing the market to reprice towards 'diplomacy possible'. Trump's follow-through risk (TACO) has capped upside spikes and analysts suspect he is under pressure to negotiate with Iran.
China may be playing a key role in pushing the US back to the negotiating table. With friendly relations with Iran, China is believed to be supplying targeting information, while also reducing its oil purchases substantially in recent months.
