Trump's Warning Sends Oil Prices Soaring Amid Ongoing Middle East Tensions
Oil prices surged to their highest level in over three weeks on Thursday after US President Donald Trump warned of potential economic repercussions against nations supporting Iran.
The Brent crude futures price rose by $2.20, or 2.4%, to $93.82 a barrel at 11:36 a.m. EDT, while the U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures for September increased by $2.33 to $88.16 a barrel.
This development comes as tensions between Iran and its allies remain high, with Tehran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and attacks on energy facilities across the Middle East sharply disrupting oil supplies.
Giovanni Staunovo, an analyst at UBS, noted that 'tensions in the Middle East remain high, leaving room for further supply disruptions.' Lower oil exports from the region have tightened the oil market, according to Staunovo.
