TSX Tumbles Over 300 Points as Oil Prices Rise
The Toronto Stock Exchange saw significant losses on September 28, 2026, as Canada's main stock index plummeted by over 300 points. The S&P/TSX composite index fell 341.98 points to close at 35,458.91.
The decline was driven by losses in several key sectors, including base metals, technology, and telecoms. Meanwhile, the price of oil continued to rise, with the November crude oil contract increasing by US$2.99 to reach US$95.40 per barrel.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average also declined, down 386.05 points at 51,442.57. The S&P 500 index and Nasdaq composite followed suit, down 64.80 points at 7,678.61 and 279.38 points at 26,789.34 respectively.
The Canadian dollar traded for 70.58 cents US compared to 70.70 cents US the previous day.
