TTF Gas Prices Plummet But Long-Term Uncertainty Remains

Natural gas prices in Europe have declined sharply, dropping by as much as 8.5% on Monday, according to the Dutch TTF benchmark.

This is a significant drop from last week's highs, when the price closed above 60 EUR/MWh multiple times.

Despite this short-term relief, market experts are cautioning that long-term fundamentals remain uncertain and may continue to drive prices higher.

The current decline in gas prices is largely due to a temporary de-escalation of fighting in the Persian Gulf, which has reduced concerns about an immediate interruption of supplies.

However, with storage levels at just 55% capacity, compared to a 5-year average of 71%, and low LNG imports, there is still a risk of another sharp price increase.
