Tunisia's Bread Dependence Persists Despite Improved Cereal Collection

Tunisia's cereal collection has reached 1.1 million tons for the current campaign, with durum wheat accounting for the largest share.

The Grain Office is pleased with the results, but behind the durum wheat harvest lies a stark reality: Tunisia produces enough wheat for its bread for only one month of the year.

The country spends more than 3 billion dinars importing grain, with nearly half coming from Russia. For soft wheat alone, Tunisia needs to import around 1.1 million tons annually.
