Turkey, UN Revive Black Sea Talks Amid Rising Food Prices

Turkey and the United Nations are reinitiating diplomatic efforts to establish a Black Sea corridor for grain exports, aiming to mitigate rising food prices. The talks will take place in early October in Russia and Ukraine, facilitated by mediators from the Center for Humanitarian Dialogue.

The initiative is a revival of the 2022 arrangement that kept grain, fertilizer, and food moving out of Ukrainian ports during the height of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. This agreement was one of the rare pauses that held in place during the four-year war.

The current situation is marked by intensified port strikes on both sides of the Black Sea, which has led to a three-year peak in wheat futures in August.
