Turkey's Black Sea Shipping Proposal Hits Snags Over Russia's Demands

Turkey has proposed a moratorium on Black Sea shipping attacks, but Ukrainian officials are skeptical due to Russia's 'irrelevant' additional demands.

Around 72 ships have been targeted between January and September, with 50 having ties to Turkey through ownership or management. Three Turkish nationals have been killed and 18 others injured in the attacks.

Ukraine is willing to agree to a deal modeled on the 2022-2023 Black Sea Grain Initiative, which designated specific ports for grain and fertiliser exports. However, Russia's new conditions include halting attacks on Russian oil refineries.
