TVA Cumberland Gas Plant Nears Completion with 1,450-Megawatt Capacity
The Tennessee Valley Authority's (TVA) Cumberland Gas Plant is nearing completion and will soon have a 1,450-megawatt capacity, according to General Manager of Major Projects Sam Vinson. Located near the Cumberland Fossil Plant in Cumberland City, Tennessee, the plant is one of the largest natural gas plants built by the TVA.
Vinson notes that testing has gone well during the summer peak demand, and the upgrade to the grid will be a big boon to the people of the Valley service region. The Cumberland Gas Plant is expected to be at full capacity and operation by the end of 2026.
Once complete, the natural gas plant is projected to be able to power 850,000 homes. The Cumberland Gas Plant's growth is helping keep up with regional demand during the heat of the summer, directly benefiting the area.
