Typhoons Hammer Philippines Corn Crop, Production Forecast Plummeting by 14.4%

Corn production in the Philippines is expected to decline by 14.4% in 2026 due to the impact of typhoons on the agricultural sector.

The Philippine Statistics Authority forecasts a corn harvest area of around 688,000 hectares, down from the previous figure of 789,000 hectares, which represents a decrease of 12.8%. Additionally, average yields are expected to decline by 1.6% to 3.02 tons per hectare.

The lower production outlook is attributed to a series of typhoons that have caused significant damage to agriculture in the past two months, leading to estimated total losses of $69.23 million in the agricultural sector.
