The liquefaction of natural gas has been a game-changer for the global market. With its ability to be transported around the world, areas with abundant supplies can now access areas on the other side of the ocean.

The U.S. liquefied natural gas industry is expanding rapidly, with exports averaging 17.4 billion cubic feet per day in the first six months of 2026 - a 23% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

Most U.S. exports of LNG go to Europe, particularly high for countries such as the Netherlands, Italy, France, the UK, Germany and Spain. Asia is another major market, with U.S. exports up sharply due to a lack of access to producers in the Middle East.

The development of the LNG market has several benefits, including increased business activity and job creation where facilities are located as well as in production areas. It also helps support the natural gas market, which had seen historically low prices in the past.
