U.S. Unleashes Economic Onslaught on Iran with Operation Economic Outcast
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has unveiled new U.S. economic sanctions on Iran and its enablers, calling it an 'economic onslaught' against the country's global financial connections.
The administration is calling the measures 'Operation Economic Outcast,' with a stated objective to sever every economic lifeline that sustains the Iranian regime until Tehran stands alone.
Bessent said the U.S. has mapped out networks, facilitators, and financial channels that enable Iran's oil trade, targeting a network of brokers, companies, and shadow fleet vessels operating across various regions to transport Iranian oil and channel revenue to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force (IRGC-QF) and other regime elements.
He emphasized that the U.S. is giving countries time to change their ways before taking major action, with President Trump making phone calls to world leaders requesting they cease interactions with the regime.
