UAE Blames Iran for Drone Attacks on Oil Tankers in Strait of Hormuz
The United Arab Emirates has accused Iran of attacking two tankers operated by state-owned oil company ADNOC as they sailed through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway that connects the Persian Gulf to the open oceans.
The attacks caused no casualties but underscored the dangers faced by vessels trying to move cargo through this strategic passage. According to the UAE's Foreign Ministry, the attacks were 'acts of piracy' and a 'flagrant violation' of UN principles on freedom of navigation.
The British military's United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Center also reported that two vessels suffered minor damage from drone attacks while transiting the Strait of Hormuz. However, it did not confirm whether these ships were the ADNOC tankers.
