UAE Doubles Oil Export Capacity via Hormuz Bypass Pipeline
The United Arab Emirates is doubling its capacity to export crude oil through a pipeline bypassing the Strait of Hormuz by next year, 2027. This move aims to reduce reliance on the shipping chokepoint and mitigate the impact of potential future disruptions.
Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. (Adnoc) is accelerating the construction of this pipeline, which runs from the emirate's oil fields to the port of Fujairah on the Gulf of Oman. The existing 1.5 million barrel-a-day conduit has already proved to be a lifeline during the Middle East conflict.
According to Carole Nakhle, chief executive of consultant Crystol Energy Ltd., 'The project gains new significance in the context of the Hormuz crisis, but the logic behind it predates the war.' The UAE's goal is clear: reducing dependence on the Strait of Hormuz.
