UAE Oil Giants Navigate Hormuz Risks, Fertiglobe Diversifies Exports

The UAE's Adnoc has resumed its 'dark mode' LNG shuttle operations after crossing the Strait of Hormuz with its AIS switched off, according to Bloomberg.

This is not an isolated incident: three other LNG carriers owned by or on long-term charter to Adnoc stopped transmitting their positions while waiting off the UAE's east coast. These tankers were potentially emptying at Das Island, the UAE's only LNG export plant with a capacity of 6 mtpa.

Meanwhile, Fertiglobe is diversifying its export routes to maintain fertilizer shipments during a prolonged Hormuz closure. The company is exploring using trains alongside trucks and alternative ports to strengthen its export network, in addition to rerouting its Egyptian production through the Mediterranean.
