UBS's latest forecast sees gold prices reaching $5,200 by June 2027, despite near-term pullback risks. The bank's caution reflects market concerns over further Federal Reserve rate increases, which could keep real yields elevated and reduce investment demand for the metal.

In the short term, UBS warns of a potential dip towards $3,850 if the Fed continues to hike interest rates this year. Central bank buying has been a key driver of gold demand, reaching 700 tons at an annualized pace in the first half of the year, but investment appetite has cooled, with ETF and bar-and-coin demand dropping.

For gold prices to hold above $4,000, UBS says investment inflows need to recover and official-sector demand needs to remain close to 300 tons per quarter. A decision by the Fed to hold rates steady followed by rate cuts in early 2027 could revive investment demand and support gold's next leg higher.

UBS sees a potential entry point for long-term investors at $3,850, rather than a signal of a broader bear market, as periods of softness at this level may ultimately prove to be opportunities to build exposure rather than reasons to step away from gold.
