Uganda has given its crude oil the name 'Pearl Sweet' ahead of production, which is expected to reach 230,000 barrels per day by the end of the year. President Yoweri Museveni unveiled the name at a ceremony in Hoima, the center of Uganda's emerging oil industry.

The name reflects both the characteristics of the crude and the country's national identity. 'Sweet' refers to the low sulphur content of the oil, while 'Pearl' is a reference to Uganda's description as the 'Pearl of Africa.'

The naming comes as Uganda advances two major oil developments operated by TotalEnergies and CNOOC. The projects are approaching completion, with combined peak production expected to reach about 230,000 barrels per day.
