Uganda's 'Pearl Sweet' crude oil made its debut in Singapore at the Asia Pacific Petroleum Conference (APPEC), an annual convention that brings together top oil and gas industry executives. The conference is organized by S&P Global Energy, a leading global provider of data, insights, and benchmark price assessments.

The Ugandan delegation, led by Minister of Energy Ms. Monica Musenero and Uganda National Oil Company (Unoc) top executives, publicized the country's newly christened crude oil at the conference. The 'Pearl Sweet' name was chosen after a technical review and stakeholder consultations between government and oil companies TotalEnergies EP and CNOOC.

The 'Sweet' in Pearl Sweet refers to the crude oil's low sulphur concentration, while 'Pearl' is a nod to Uganda's moniker as the 'Pearl of Africa.' With its unique selling point, Ugandan oil executives are optimistic that the crude will attract interest across different markets when commercial production starts.
