UK Approves Time-Limited Air Refueling Support for Saudi Jets Amid Yemen Conflict

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has approved a time-limited agreement to provide air refueling support for Saudi fighter jets engaged in combat against Yemen's Houthi rebels. The Royal Air Force (RAF) Voyager tanker aircraft will be deployed from a base in Cyprus, with the UK Ministry of Defence stating that the arrangement is purely defensive and will be kept under review.

The decision to provide air refueling support was made after Saudi Arabia requested military assistance from the UK, with Burnham linking the agreement to maintaining oil export routes open. The UK has already been providing air defense equipment and personnel to help protect against missile and drone attacks in Saudi Arabia.

However, some have expressed concerns that the UK's involvement may draw Britain closer to direct participation in the conflict. Defence Minister Luke Pollard described the support as 'purely defensive' and time-limited for a matter of weeks, rather than days.
