UK Backs £43M Cornwall Lithium Project to Boost Local Supply
The UK government has backed a £43 million investment in Cornwall's lithium extraction project to strengthen domestic critical-minerals supply and support EV manufacturing. Geothermal Engineering Limited (GEL) is investing £43 million ($81.13 million) to develop a lithium extraction facility.
The project is expected to create 50 direct jobs and generate an additional 80 positions across the wider supply chain, supporting economic activity alongside the UK's push to expand domestic mineral production.
The development has received £10 million in funding through the UK Government's DRIVE35 Automotive Transformation Fund, which supports research, development, and industrial investment across the automotive sector.
