UK Harvest Yields Continue to Disappoint Amid Prolonged Dry Conditions
The UK harvest yields continue to disappoint, according to the latest update from the Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board (AHDB). Despite quick progress in most of England and Wales, wet weather in Scotland and the North of England has slowed down the harvest. The speed of progress has varied significantly across different regions.
Average UK winter wheat yields are coming in at 6.7t/ha, while the equivalent figures for winter barley, winter oilseed rape, oats, and spring barley are 6.8t, 3.9t, 4.2t, and 4.1t respectively. Winter oilseed rape is the only crop to outperform its 2025 average figure.
The harvest has been particularly challenging for winter wheat and spring barley, with yields remaining disappointing due to prolonged dry conditions. The variability of this year's crop cannot be overstated, with some farms achieving yields close to or above their long-term averages while others have seen significant reductions.
