UK Natgas Prices Plummet Amid Saudi Pipeline Reboot
UK natural gas prices have extended their decline for a third consecutive session, falling below 192 pence per therm on Thursday. This drop is in line with broader weakness across energy markets, following reports that Saudi Arabia was taking steps to restore a key oil pipeline.
The reduced risk premium in oil markets has spilled over into gas prices, contributing to the decline. However, UK gas prices remain elevated and close to 2022 highs due to concerns about winter supply risks.
Europe is heading into winter with its lowest gas storage levels in two decades, at around 68% capacity. This is largely due to sustained disruptions to LNG supplies from the Persian Gulf and record summer heatwaves that have constrained efforts to replenish reserves.
