UK Natural Gas Prices Slip Below 192 Pence Amid Saudi Pipeline Restart
UK natural gas prices have dropped below 192 pence per therm for the third consecutive day, according to Trading Economics. The decline is linked to reports that Saudi Arabia is working to repair a key oil pipeline, which has trimmed part of the risk premium in oil markets.
This has contributed to a more subdued tone in energy pricing, with UK gas prices still elevated and near levels seen at 2022 highs. This reflects persistent concerns about winter supply, particularly given that Europe's gas storage is among the lowest in two decades, with facilities only about 68 percent full.
The low storage levels are attributed to continued disruptions to liquefied natural gas supplies from the Persian Gulf and record summer heatwaves that have sharply limited efforts to rebuild reserves. This has raised questions over whether supplies will be adequate during the heating season, compounded by robust demand from Asia and other buyers that could intensify competition for LNG cargoes once colder weather arrives.
