UK Stocks Plunge as Bond Yields and Oil Prices Rise
UK stocks came under pressure on Wednesday, hitting a one-month low as rising government bond yields and higher oil prices weighed on investor sentiment.
The FTSE 250 index fell 0.8% to its lowest level since early August, while the FTSE 100 slipped 0.56% to 10,728.90 points by mid-morning.
The weakness spread across mining, media, and consumer-linked shares, with Brent crude trading near $95 a barrel.
Matthew Ryan, head of market strategy at Ebury, noted that the sharp move higher in UK government borrowing costs creates additional pressure on the UK government's fiscal position.
