UK Wheat Market Faces Pressure from Third Consecutive Small Harvest
The UK wheat market is facing increasing pressure due to a third consecutive small harvest. The estimated crop size for this year is 11.6 million tonnes, which would mark the third straight year of sub-12 million tonne production and leave output 14% below the 10-year average.
This decline in production is attributed to a smaller crop area and below-average yields caused by exceptionally dry and hot conditions during the spring and summer.
Despite this, milling wheat quality appears more encouraging, with reports of good functionality and sufficient supplies meeting industry requirements.
The rise in UK feed wheat futures for November 2026 delivery has increased by 17% since July, equivalent to a £31.50 per tonne increase, due to concerns over the smaller domestic crop and global supply risks.
