Ukraine Corn Prices Decline Amid EU Import Surge and Export Growth
Ukraine's corn prices have seen a decline despite increased imports into the European Union and higher Ukrainian shipments. Data from the Electronic Grain Exchange shows that over the past week, purchase prices on an EXW-elevator basis in the eastern and central regions fell by UAH 100-500 per tonne to UAH 5,500-6,000 per tonne.
In the west of the country, demand for September deliveries remains at UAH 7,000-7,500 per tonne on an FCA basis, with loading onto a railcar or truck. Shipments are being delayed, while traders have active contracts with buyers in the EU.
The European Union has imported 4.47 million tonnes of corn as of September 20 of the 2026/27 marketing year, a 26.9% increase from the same period last year. Ukraine's share of EU imports rose from 20% to 31.4%, with shipments doubling to 1.4 million tonnes.
Ukraine has exported 1.84 million tonnes of corn so far this season, a significant increase from the 905,000 tonnes during the same period last year. The new harvest has only just begun, with 1% of the area harvested yielding 339,800 tonnes of corn at an average yield of 5 tonnes per hectare.
The Electronic Grain Exchange estimates that even with ports closed, exporters will be able to ship up to 1 million tonnes of corn per month. Despite increased shipments to the EU, domestic prices remain under pressure, while the volume of the new crop is still taking shape.
