The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has relaxed foreign exchange control regulations for exporters of key agricultural commodities in an effort to mitigate logistical challenges caused by ongoing hostilities in the Black Sea region.

According to Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi, the rules regarding payment deadlines for export contracts have been amended to provide producers and exporters with more time to fulfill their contracts. The Ministry of Economy will now be able to extend established deadlines upon an exporter's request for up to 180 days.

The decision comes as global food prices rose to their highest level since late 2022 in August, driven by concerns about supplies from key producing regions due to the escalation of hostilities near ports in the Odesa region. Sugar prices rose by 11.9% over the month, while wheat prices increased by 2.6%, with overall wheat prices already 15% higher than last year's level.
