The Ukrainian government has relaxed regulations on grain exports in an effort to mitigate logistical challenges caused by ongoing hostilities in the Black Sea region.

Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi announced that the Ministry of Economy will now be able to extend payment deadlines for export contracts for key agricultural commodities, including wheat, corn, soybeans, sunflower seeds, sunflower oil, and sunflower meal.

The new rules allow for a maximum extension period of 180 days upon an exporter's request. This change is intended to give producers and exporters more time to fulfill their contracts.

Global food prices have been rising due to the conflict in Ukraine, particularly near the ports of the Odesa region. In August, global food prices reached a new high since late 2022, with grain prices increasing by 2.6% compared to July and sugar prices rising by 11.9%.
