Ukraine Grain Exports Plunge Amid Port Disruptions
Ukraine's grain exports have taken a hit due to operational disruptions at key deep-water ports following Russian attacks since August. According to recent data, Ukraine has exported around 4.67 million tonnes of grains since July 1, marking a 22% year-on-year decline.
The sharp drop in exports is attributed to disruptions at major ports such as Chornomorsk, Pivdenniy, and Odesa. Wheat shipments fell by 44% to 2.33 million tonnes, while barley exports halved to 420,000 tonnes. However, corn shipments nearly doubled to 1.84 million tonnes.
To mitigate the impact on farmers, the World Bank has approved a $250 million financial assistance package. The funds will be used to subsidize interest payments under the government's subsidized agricultural credit framework.
