Ukraine Hits Agricultural Export Milestone Amid Port Constraints
Ukraine's agricultural exports reached a milestone in September, with 2.4 million tonnes of products shipped abroad. This represents 46% of the country's required export volume for the period.
The majority of these exports were grains, with 1.4 million tonnes sent overseas, accounting for 38% of Ukraine's potentially required grain shipments. Oilseeds made up another significant portion, with 444 thousand tonnes exported, an impressive 83% of the country's projected oilseed export volume.
Minister Taras Vysotskyi noted that these exports are in line with projections, with the aim being to achieve between 45-50% of required volumes using existing routes. Currently, 41% of agricultural products are transported by rail, 54% via the Danube, and just 5% by road.
Vysotskyi emphasized that without access to Black Sea ports, Ukraine's ability to export agricultural goods would be severely impaired, with around half of its export-oriented products unable to leave the country. This would result in a loss of approximately $10 billion worth of exports this marketing year, or roughly 30 million tonnes of agricultural products.
