Ukraine Hits Moscow Oil Refinery in Largest Drone Attack Yet
A major drone attack by Ukraine on Moscow's oil refineries has left the city's main refinery ablaze, with at least two people killed and 20 injured. The strike, which saw 450 drones shot down, is believed to be one of the largest attacks on the region.
The Moscow Oil Refinery in Kapotnya, which supplies about 40% of Moscow's fuel market and 70% of the region's demand for petrol and aviation gas, was hit by a major fire. The refinery has a capacity of around 11 million tonnes of crude per year, or roughly 220,000 barrels per day.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Kyiv had struck a key Russian oil facility and logistics site in the region using drones and missiles. He described the targets as 'assets worth billions of dollars' to Russia's war effort.
The impact of the strike on global markets is still unclear, but traders are closely watching how long any outage lasts and whether it affects Russian export flows. A refinery of this scale is primarily a refined products story, with diesel already rallying in anticipation of supply disruptions.
