Ukraine Secures $500M Petroleum Deal with Poland's ORLEN, LNG Shipments
Naftogaz Group and Poland's ORLEN have solidified their partnership, agreeing to supply Ukraine with three liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes in the first quarter of 2027. This is part of a $500 million petroleum deal signed during the Carpathian Eight Summit, aiming to help cover Ukraine's needs during peak seasonal consumption. Naftogaz has been leaning on this partnership since Russian strikes crippled domestic gas production, forcing Ukraine to import record volumes of gas through various European corridors.
Under the LNG memorandum, additional volumes are intended to cover Ukraine's needs during peak seasonal consumption. Serhii Fedorenko, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Naftogaz, emphasized the importance of reliable sources and diversified delivery routes, particularly amid ongoing Russian attacks on domestic production facilities.
The agreement also opens up the possibility of exporting Ukrainian crude oil for processing at refineries in Central Europe. Furthermore, companies are exploring transferring used fuel tanker trucks from ORLEN to Ukrnafta to help transport petroleum products domestically. This deal is part of a multi-corridor import system Naftogaz has assembled over roughly the past year.
