Ukraine Strikes Nizhnekamsk Refinery, Disrupting Russia's Fuel Production
Ukraine's military has launched another attack on Russia's oil refining infrastructure, striking the TANECO refinery in Nizhnekamsk, a key facility in the Republic of Tatarstan. The strike comes just a day after a major refinery in Ufa was hit, highlighting Ukraine's continued efforts to disrupt Russia's fuel production and distribution.
The attack on TANECO involved Ukrainian long-range drones, which were able to evade Russian air defenses and successfully target the refinery. Preliminary assessments indicate that the facility suffered significant damage, although the extent of the impact is still unclear.
TANECO is one of Russia's newest and largest refining facilities, producing over 20 types of petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel, and base oils. The complex has a reported oil-processing depth of up to 99%, allowing it to extract a high share of usable products from crude oil.
The attack on TANECO follows a pattern of Ukrainian strikes targeting Russia's refining industry in recent weeks. On August 19, Ukrainian drones struck the ELOU-AVT-6 unit at the Bashneft-Ufa Oil Refinery, causing significant damage and disrupting fuel production.
