Ukraine's Farmers Reap Bounty, Harvesting Over 34 Million Tonnes of Grain and Legumes
Ukrainian farmers have harvested an impressive amount of grain and legumes this season. According to data from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, more than 34.3 million tonnes of cereals and pulses have been collected as of September 29.
The largest harvest was in Odesa region, where 5.6 million tonnes were gathered. This is not surprising, given that the region has a significant amount of arable land. The Ministry reported that harvesting progress varies sharply by region, with some areas already clearing their fields and others still bringing in crops.
The data also shows that wheat was harvested from 5.11 million hectares, yielding 26 million tonnes at an average yield of 50.8 centners per hectare. Barley was harvested from 1.48 million hectares, yielding 6.6 million tonnes at an average yield of 44.6 centners per hectare.
The total harvest of oilseed crops exceeded 8.4 million tonnes. Rapeseed was the largest contributor, with 3.87 million tonnes harvested from 1.33 million hectares. Sunflower and soybean production also saw significant yields.
