Ukraine's Grain Exports Halted as Deep-Water Ports Cease Operations
Ukraine's deep-water ports have effectively ceased operations following intensified missile strikes around Odesa and Chornomorsk, threatening grain exports. Shipowners have voluntarily suspended loading and unloading their vessels due to security concerns.
The suspension of services has been announced by Maersk, one of the world's leading container operators, which has redirected a vessel from Ukraine to Constanța. The Ministry of Agrarian Policy has urged farmers not to panic, stating that there are enough storage spaces and capacities in Ukraine for now.
However, Minister Taras Vysotsky acknowledged that after prolonged export delays, Ukraine may need additional storage for 10-12 million tonnes of grain. To address this issue, the government plans to appeal to international partners for temporary storage and is considering engaging private capacity.
