Ukraine's Grain Exports Plunge Amid Black Sea Port Disruptions

The ports of Greater Odessa in Ukraine typically account for about 90% of the country's grain shipments, but recent attacks have disrupted exports.

The problem extends beyond farmers who are unable to sell their harvested crops in a timely manner. Agricultural products account for more than half of Ukraine's export revenue, so a reduction in shipments could affect both foreign exchange earnings and the country's economic performance.

Farmers are forced to either store grain while waiting for exports to resume or sell it on the domestic market at lower prices.

The disruptions have already forced a revision of export forecasts. Ukraine's Ministry of Agriculture expects wheat shipments in the 2026/27 season to drop to 8.3 million metric tons, down from the previously projected 17.6 million metric tons.
