Ukraine's Grain Exports Trail Last Year's Pace

Ukraine's grain exports are off to a slow start this season. As of September 4, the country had exported 3.913 million tons of grain and leguminous crops, a 14% decrease from last year's corresponding period.

The biggest drop came in wheat exports, which decreased by 40% from 2.987 to 1.794 million tons. Barley exports also took a hit, plummeting by 43% from 651 to 369 thousand tons. However, corn exports bucked the trend, increasing by 91% from 886 thousand tons to 1.689 million tons.

August's export numbers were particularly disappointing, with Ukraine shipping only 606 thousand tons of wheat, 69 thousand tons of barley, and 306 thousand tons of corn. In contrast, last year's exports in August totaled 415 thousand tons of grain.
