Ukrainian Corn Market Starts Season with Lower Purchase Prices Due to Harvesting and Logistics Issues
The Ukrainian corn market has started the new season with lower purchase prices due to several factors. The harvesting of the new crop, logistics issues, and a shortage of railcars are pushing down grain costs. At the same time, demand from the European Union remains high.
Over the past week, prices for corn in central and eastern regions of Ukraine have decreased by 100-500 UAH/ton, reaching 5500-6000 UAH/ton. In contrast, western part of the country has higher prices, with corn deliveries in September being bought at 7000-7500 UAH/ton.
The price difference is partly due to delivery delays and contracts for supplying Ukrainian grain to the EU held by traders. The shortage of railcars has led to a backlog of unloading at western borders, causing railcar idling for 2-4 weeks.
