Ukrainian Farmer Dumps Watermelons on Wheat Field as Fertilizer
A farmer from Zakarpattia province in Ukraine has sparked controversy after dumping his watermelon harvest onto a wheat field to use as fertilizer, rather than selling it at a low price. The incident occurred when Vasyl refused to sell his crop for four hryvnias per kilogram, citing that he would rather enrich the soil for the next grain harvest.
A video of the event showed Vasyl emotionally explaining his decision, stating 'Better as fertilizer' as he unloaded the watermelons onto the field. The footage sparked a mixed reaction among social media users, with some expressing outrage and suggesting the fruit should be given to those in need who cannot afford it.
Representatives of the Strong of the Defence also criticized Vasyl's initiative, suggesting that the watermelon could have been donated to the Armed Forces instead. The incident has raised questions about the prices farmers receive for their produce and the impact on local communities.
