A Ukrainian man has been arrested in Croatia on suspicion of involvement in the 2022 explosions that damaged the Nord Stream gas pipelines.

The suspect, identified as Vladimir Z., is a trained scuba diver who allegedly belonged to a group of people who planted explosives on the pipelines in the Baltic Sea near the Danish island of Bornholm.

The undersea explosions occurred on September 26, 2022, and damaged both Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2, which had been built to carry Russian natural gas to Germany.

This incident added to tensions over the war in Ukraine as European countries moved to reduce their dependence on Russian energy sources after Russia's invasion of its neighbor.
