UN Condemns Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia Amid Energy Price Jumps
The United Nations Security Council has condemned recent attacks on Saudi Arabia by Yemen's Houthi rebels, in a rare show of unity from the UN's top body. The Houthis have imposed a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia, targeting its tankers and territory, and seizing control of swaths of Yemen's Red Sea coast, which is crucial for Saudi oil exports.
The naval blockade has caused energy prices to jump due to concerns over supply disruptions. In response, the Security Council demanded that the Houthis immediately cease their military escalation and attacks on civilians and civilian objects.
Washington and its allies, including Saudi Arabia and the Yemeni government backed by Saudi Arabia, accuse Iran of supporting the Houthi militant movement. However, Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian denied these claims, stating that 'the Houthis are responsible for their own actions.'
