Union County Prepares for Energy Surge Amid Gas Tax Pause
Union County is bracing for an influx of energy projects over the next decade. According to Dale Arnold, director of energy, utility, and local government policy for the Ohio Farm Bureau, current power proposals are only the beginning of a long-term trend.
The region's unique geography makes it an ideal location for power distribution, with Union County sitting at a critical crossroads. Commissioner Steve Robinson noted that this central location makes Union County a primary target for energy developers.
The surge in infrastructure is driven by the massive power demands of regional data centers. To meet these needs, developers are operating under Ohio House Bill 15, which encourages data centers to build dedicated power plants next to their facilities. These plants typically use natural gas-fired turbines and produce over 50 megawatts of electricity.
