German energy giant Uniper and Norwegian state-owned Equinor have signed a historic 15-year natural gas supply deal. The agreement covers over 30 terawatt-hours of gas per year, starting in 2027 and running through 2041.

The massive contract aims to strengthen the long-term supply of the German market and contribute to Uniper's portfolio diversification. Michael Lewis, CEO of Uniper, hailed the deal as a 'strong signal for the future of Europe's energy system', emphasizing the importance of reliable partnerships in securing competitive energy markets.

Anders Opedal, Equinor's CEO, pointed out that Norway's gas has a lower carbon footprint compared to other supply sources. The partnership will focus on developing lower-emissions gas solutions for German customers.

The agreement highlights the growing importance of cooperation between European countries in securing reliable energy supplies amidst global market volatility.
