A major long-term sale and purchase agreement has been signed between Ksi Lisims LNG and Uniper, a German energy company. The deal will see Uniper purchase two million tonnes per year of liquefied natural gas from the proposed floating facility north of Prince Rupert in Northwest B.C.

The agreement marks the first major long-term LNG supply contract between Canada and Germany and represents a significant step in strengthening their strategic energy partnership, according to a joint press release. This milestone deal brings Uniper on board with other companies that have contracted capacity for Ksi Lisims LNG, including Shell, TotalÉnergies, and SEFE.

With this new agreement, the total contracted capacity now stands at 7 Mtpa out of a projected 12 Mtpa total capacity. To move forward with the project, backers Western LNG are looking for a commitment of 80 to 90 per cent of capacity (around 9-10 Mtpa) for a final investment decision.
