US Ag Exports Face Uncertainty Amid Slow Sales and Trade Tensions
A grains and oilseeds analyst warns that uncertainty looms over some US ag exports. According to Bree Baatz with Terrain, China appears on track to meet its goal of importing 25 million metric tons, but there's a $17 billion commitment for non-soybean goods that remains unfulfilled. So far, only small sorghum sales have been seen, while new crop corn and wheat exports are pending.
Baatz notes that corn exports are behind last year's pace due in part to a lack of Mexican purchases. She attributes this to the country's restricted domestic supply and potential geopolitical factors related to USMCA trade agreements.
Kelly Brunkhorst with Nebraska Corn emphasizes the importance of maintaining good relations with Canada, citing the potential loss of access to their largest ethanol market as a missed opportunity.
