US and Argentina Ink $6 Billion Deal for Natural Gas Exports
Argentina and the United States have agreed to finance infrastructure projects aimed at boosting Argentine exports of natural gas, critical minerals, and other commodities. The new investment agreement was signed by Argentine Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Chris Landau on September 23 in New York.
The deal is a key part of the strategic alliance between the governments of President Javier Milei and former President Donald Trump. One of the main objectives of the agreement is to secure $6 billion for Argentina LNG, a large-scale project to produce liquefied natural gas for export.
Argentina LNG brings together Argentine state-controlled energy company YPF, Italy's ENI, and XRG, a company based in the United Arab Emirates. The project requires significant infrastructure development to process, liquefy, and transport the gas to international markets.
The investment commitment has the backing of the U.S. Export-Import Bank and private investors. The agreement also includes loans and guarantees for other strategic sectors as part of growing cooperation between Argentina and the United States.
