US and Iranian officials have had separate talks with mediators in an effort to end the seven-month war between their countries. The renewed negotiations focus on an amended version of a proposal Iran presented last week at the United Nations General Assembly.

The war began in late February, resulting in thousands of deaths and disrupting global oil markets. There have been two previous ceasefires agreed upon through mediated peace talks, but they both quickly unraveled.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said his country expected a response from the US regarding its latest ceasefire proposals. The plan includes an end to hostilities in Iran and Lebanon, the unfreezing of billions of dollars' worth of Iranian assets, and the lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil.
