US and Yemen's Houthi Rebels Open Talks Amid Escalating Tensions
The United States and Houthi rebels in Yemen have opened talks, amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. The move comes as US officials met over the weekend with representatives of Ansar Allah, also known as the Houthis, to discuss their intentions.
The meeting was held at the American embassy in Oman, where the Houthis assured US counterparts that they would continue adhering to a 2025 ceasefire agreement and only target Saudi forces and shipping attempting to enter the Red Sea.
This development has significant implications for the ongoing conflict in Yemen, where the Houthis control around 80% of the population. The group's control of key ports and infrastructure has disrupted oil exports from the region, contributing to a Saudi economic crisis.
