US Becomes India's Largest LNG Supplier as Qatar Imports Plummet

The US has emerged as India's largest supplier of liquefied natural gas (LNG) during May-July 2026, according to a report by Equirus Securities. The country imported about 7.08 million tonnes (MT) of LNG during this period, up 15% from a year earlier.

The US supplied 2.19 MT of LNG, followed by Nigeria with 1.31 MT and Oman with 1.22 MT. Qatar's LNG imports fell sharply to 0.23 MT, down 91% year-on-year.

India's natural gas consumption rose to 197 million metric standard cubic metres per day (mmscmd) in June 2026, up 7% month-on-month and 2% year-on-year. LNG consumption increased to 110 mmscmd, while domestic gas consumption remained at 87 mmscmd.
